Researcher (Cell Technology)

Developing cell technology methods that can be implemented in breeding programs.

 What are you going to do?

As a Researcher, you will lead research projects and implementation of new methods in the field of micropropagation, cellular fusions and double haploids. You will work closely with other Biotechnology teams and breeding teams highly motivated to develop the best vegetable varieties.

At Cell Technology (CT), we cooperate with breeding and other Biotechnology departments to deliver plants with various genetic value. Within cell biology research, we focus on developing protocols that enable us to copy, fix and generate new genetics. Once we have established these protocols, we work closely with our production team to run them in a routine environment and transforming these protocols into products that are used by the various breeding/Biotechnology teams. We have experience in plant growth, double haploid production, micropropagation, plant transformation, chemical and genetic mutagenesis, protoplast-based technologies and embryo rescue. We are keen on expanding our technology portfolio by exploring advances in the above-mentioned techniques.

Your power

You are passionate about plant development and eager to translate research into breeding applications. You fit well working in a team and, as a researcher, you are also able to work independently and accurately. Your natural curiosity drives you to investigate, experiment and conclude in practical and timely manner. You come up with creative solutions fitting the situational needs. Your attitude is analytic, proactive and practical. You are perseverant when dealing with complex challenges and you have a flexible mindset that allows you to switch between activities and reprioritise when needed in a fast pace, dynamic organisation. Thanks to your good communication skills, you connect easily with people on multiple levels and take position based on relevant arguments for improvements in the process chain.

In short, you:

  • have a PhD degree in (green) life sciences with at least 2 years of relevant experience in plant biology or a MSc in (green) life sciences with at least 5 years of relevant experience in plant biology;
  • are experienced with a wide range of in vitro cell and tissue methodologies;
  • are experienced with project management;
  • have affinity with liquid suspension cultures;
  • are knowledgeable about plant development and plant regeneration biology;
  • have affinity with scouting and implementation of new technologies in the field of cell and tissue culture;
  • have interest in translating research findings into practical applications;
  • are fluent in English.

Our power

Enza Zaden is a vegetable breeding company that develops vegetable varieties. We produce and sell the seeds of these varieties all over the world. Both for conventional and organic growers. In order to explain this properly (and as briefly as possible) we have made an animation.

For more than 80 years we are working with the best that nature offers. We support this with state-of-the-art technologies to speed up our breeding process. That is really necessary, because currently the development of a new vegetable variety takes up 6 to 10 years.

The results? Strong, healthy, tasty and climate-proof vegetable varieties with higher yield per square meter and less need of crop protection products or fertilizer.

Our strength? More than 2000 passionate colleagues worldwide working together on the vegetables of tomorrow. Therefore, we continuously invest in knowledge and skills with our Enza Academy and under the flag of enzActive we organize various sports activities to stay healthy.
