Senior Researcher (Cell Technology)
Passionate about new breeding and cell technologies, with inspirational skills to lead a highly motivated research team.
What are you going to do?
As a senior Researcher, you will lead a research team developing and applying new methodologies such as genome editing to generate new genetic variation in a wide range of vegetable crops.
You will work closely with other Biotechnology teams and breeding teams to contribute to the validation of strategic traits in various crops.
At Cell Technology (CT), we cooperate with breeding and other Biotechnology departments to deliver plants with various genetic value. Within cell biology research, we focus on developing protocols that enable us to copy, fix and generate new genetics. Once we have established these protocols, we work closely with our production team to run them in a routine environment and transforming these protocols into products that are used by the various breeding/Biotechnology teams. We have experience in plant growth, double haploid production, micropropagation, plant transformation, chemical and genetic mutagenesis, protoplast-based technologies and embryo rescue. We are keen on expanding our technology portfolio by exploring advances in the above-mentioned techniques.
You are passionate about plant biology, new breeding technologies and people management. In your work as a senior researcher you scout, test and implement new cell technologies, within the genetic mutagenesis/genome editing space, together with your team. You are an excellent communicator, a natural connector and have a coaching leadership style. You are keen in developing a vision for and with your research team and to translate it into practice with sharp planning, focus and creativity. Your flexible mind set allows you to switch between activities and reprioritise when needed. You are pro-active, creative and energetic and feel at ease leading a team in a fast pace, dynamic organisation.
In short, you:
- have a PhD degree in green life sciences with at least 5 years of relevant experience in plant biology or a MSc in green life sciences with at least 8-10 years of relevant experience in plant biology;
- are experienced with people management, coaching and team development;
- are experienced on Genome Editing technologies and their applications in studying biological processes;
- are experienced with project management;
- are experienced with line management;
- have affinity with plant cell- and tissue culture and molecular biology;
- are knowledgeable about plant biology.
Enza Zaden is a vegetable breeding company that develops vegetable varieties. We produce and sell the seeds of these varieties all over the world. Both for conventional and organic growers. In order to explain this properly (and as briefly as possible) we have made an animation.
For more than 80 years we are working with the best that nature offers. We support this with state-of-the-art technologies to speed up our breeding process. That is really necessary, because currently the development of a new vegetable variety takes up 6 to 10 years.
The results? Strong, healthy, tasty and climate-proof vegetable varieties with higher yield per square meter and less need of crop protection products or fertilizer.
Our strength? More than 2000 passionate colleagues worldwide working together on the vegetables of tomorrow. Therefore, we continuously invest in knowledge and skills with our Enza Academy and under the flag of enzActive we organize various sports activities to stay healthy.
